The UP Chemical Engineering Society, Inc. held “Paradox: The UP KEM Orientation Seminar (16A)” at the Department of Chemical Engineering Building last September 13.
Aiming to introducing UP KEM to the future applicants of the organization, the event consisted of a series of activities and talks from the alumni and members of the organization. It was headed by Fatima Talan (15A).
Reminiscing their days in UP KEM, the alumni speakers Engr. Bemboy Nino Subosa (08B), Engr. Fra Olalem Cinco (01B), and fresh-grad Mr. Paul Jake Nalzaro (11A) shared with the event’s participants how and why joining the organization was one of their best decisions in their college life.
Engr. Subosa, a current faculty member of the Chemical Engineering Department, related how the organization had helped him hone his talents and academic performance as well as in finding his circle of friends in the organization. Meanwhile, Engr. Cinco, a reservoir engineer at Chevron, reiterated the importance of chemical engineers in the industry, where UP KEM alumni continue to shine. Concluding the inspirational talks, Mr. Nalzaro added how the organization has helped him develop his leadership skills, talents, and academics.
In addition, members of the Executive Council talked about the different committees of the organization. Aside from the committees, the events of UP KEM such as ChEck Marks the Spot (CMTS), KEM Gives Back (KGB), the upcoming Students’ National Chemical Engineering Congress (sNCEC), and the UP KEM Online Shop (Kosh) were presented as well.
The organization’s external affiliations such as the Philippine Association of Chemistry Students (PACs) and Philippine Institute of Chemical Engineers-Junior Chapter Luzon (PIChE-JCL) were also discussed. Afterwards, Troy Delos Santos (13A), the Vice President for Membership encouraged and oriented the participants on what to expect during their application process.
